Kindergarten - 3rd Grade ~ Godly Play
This fall we are beginning Godly Play for kindergarten through 3rd grade children. Godly Play is a path to invite a child in community to an experience of God through the sacred stories of our Christian tradition. The children are invited into a sacred space where representative objects of all the stories of the church surround the edges of the room as the children sit with a storyteller in the central area of the room. This Montessori-based curriculum guides a storyteller to share the sacred stories, parables and liturgical actions, using sensorial materials to help bring the story to life. The children are invited to wonder about the mystery of God in the story and in their own lives. Their individual story response time is the work of connecting their spirit to God's spirit. A feast and sharing time follow.
4th to 6th Grades
This class will explore several saints and continue with stories of the Bible, Jesus and the church. The stories of the saints help us to see how saints are ordinary people who have extraordinary lives of faith. We will also continue with the parables, the stories of Jesus and the journeys of Paul and the path of the church year. The curriculum follows the Godly Play approach as is outlined above. At times, the class will focus their Sunday mornings on service projects and fellowship in the 4th to 6th Grade Adventurers Group.
