On the Day of Pentecost, the disciples were gathered in one place when suddenly three was a sound like the rush of a violent wind and then tongues of fire descended upon them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit. -(Acts 2:1-4)
Pentecost is about gathering as a community of faith and welcoming the Holy Spirit. The spirit is universal, it empowers and transforms those who are gathered. Come, gather with us this weekend as we celebrate our life together.
On Friday, June 2 starting at 6:30pm at the church, we will gather around a bonfire as we hear our sacred story read to us from Acts 2. After our reading, we will sing familiar, old hymns- acapella style- facilitated by our Music Director, Leona, along with some help from the choir. There will be s’mores and plenty of delicious pizza for dinner.
On Saturday, June 3 from 10am-2pm, we will gather in fellowship hall to make liturgical crafts and decorations for worship. There will be activities for all ages. We will hear our sacred story read to us again and have a short discussion about what Pentecost means for us as a growing community, following the spirit’s lead. Lunch will served by the Deacons. After lunch, we will take our crafts and decorations to the sanctuary for installation. All ages are welcome! Come participate and share in the creativity.
On Sunday, June 4 we will have our Pentecost worship at 8:30am and at 11:00am, with communion at both services. The Children’s Music Group will be sharing a song they have been working on for the past few weeks and we will have a special breathing meditation incorporated into the liturgy. Please wear “flame colors” to church on Sunday.
After worship on June 4, starting at 12:15pm, everyone is invited to a potluck and cook-out! We will spread colorful quilts on the grass outside by the serving line. There will be plenty of hotdogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers for everyone. The church will provide the main dish, please bring a side item to share. If you don’t want to sit in the sun, we will have tables and chairs set up under the portico. Our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Erica, will have face-painting and friendship bracelets for kids. Also, Gracie Theobold and the youth will have a table set up, selling AVON products to help raise funds for the South Georgia Farmworker Health Project. Be sure to stop by the table and see what’s available for purchase.
Don’t miss the chance to participate. We hope to see you there for all of it but if you can realistically attend only one event of that’s great too! Come as you are able. This is our chance to be together as a community in a new way, knowing that God’s Spirit is among us, moving and shaping us as the Body of Christ.
