PENTECOST WEEKEND, June 2-4
June 2-4 is all about COMMUNITY. This fun, collective weekend will be an intergenerational event you won’t want to miss.
Starting at 6:30pm on Friday, June 2, we will gather around a bonfire at the church to sing familiar hymns and make s’mores. To kick it off, we will read the Pentecost story from Acts 2, in which the disciples receive the Holy Spirit. Our Music Director, Leona, will lead us in familiar tunes, acapella style. Pizza will be served for dinner.
On Saturday, June 3 we will be back at the church from 10am-2:00pm. During this time we will revisit the Acts 2 story and have an open discussion about what it means to be in community. From there, we will turn our attention toward decorating the sanctuary with “tongues of fire” in preparation for worship on Sunday. The boards of Christian Ed and Deacons have some fun plans to transform our worship space but we need your help in the creative process! Not only will we be making banners and decorations together in the spirit of fellowship but we will also have lunch together around noon. After lunch, we will set up the sanctuary with our amazing art installation. This is an event designed for all ages: children, families, and adults- are welcome! We hope you will come and be playful with us.
Finally, on Sunday morning, June 4, we will have our Pentecost worship. The children’s music group will be singing at the 11:00am service and we will celebrate communion together. We are asking that everyone plan to wear red, orange or yellow AKA flame colors! Our Pentecost experience will culminate with an all-church picnic and cookout outside on the lawn by the pollinator garden. There will be plenty of hamburgers (meat and veggie) and hot dogs for everyone. Please plan to bring a side item to share in the potluck. For those who want to eat outside in the grass there will be colorful quilts laid out and for those who want more shade, we will have tables outside, under the portico. There will be games and face-painting for all.
Pentecost Weekend is an attempt to try something new at Central and it won’t be successful without your participation We want everyone to feel invited to come at the last minute. However, if you can let Rev. Lacey know your intentions in advance at her email, [email protected], that would be extremely helpful in the planning process. Hope to see you there!
