Extravagant Welcome. Continuing Testament. Changing Lives.
Founded in 1882, Central Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC) is a justice-seeking, Open & Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ. Three hallmark elements form the bedrock of our worship, witness and work: extravagant welcome, continuing testament, and changing lives.

Communion Every Week
“Light and shadows” entering the sanctuary are a “feature” of this quieter service: music comes from the piano. Guitars and other instruments are used on the first and third Sunday. Every act of worship and worshipper gets “their own space.” Communion is always celebrated; community concerns and celebrations are voiced from the congregation as part of the Pastoral Prayer.

Communion First Sunday of the Month
“Classic style, contemporary theology” might best describe this worship service, as it features the pipe organ and sanctuary choir in the context of familiar liturgy, but from expanded sources (poetry, various Wisdom traditions, global reflections, etc.). Our hymns come from The New Century Hymnal and Sing! Prayer and Praise, a new resource for music. Two services a month have a sign-interpreter.
