Adult Education on Sunday Mornings

Sundays, April 15 to June 24, 9:30 AM: Justice and Witness Film Series (Fellowship Hall)

The themes include Peacemaking (Nuclear Weapons and Gun Violence), Human Rights (Health Care and Prison), Community (Workplace Justice, Community Economic Development, and Justice in Public Education), Globalization (Justice in the Global Economy), The Democratic Process (Church-State Relations and Religious Liberty, Conscientious Objection), and Environmental Racism.

All of the films listed below are available to download on your computer for $2.99 from itunes or amazon.com; they should also be available in your local library. Please try to view the film during the week before the discussion at church if you have not seen the film before; short excerpts will be shown each week for the purpose of group discussions.

The Justice and Witness film series will be facilitated by Central member Tom Anderson, who teaches Film Appreciation courses at Georgia Perimeter College, GPC Online, and Reinhardt University. Adult Education: Mid-Week Offerings

1st & 3rd THURSDAYS: TWO FIERY SOULS: Creating Mandalas

We l meet on first and third Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. through March. Each week there will be reading assignments but our circle time will focus on song, our mandala creations, and shared prayers. All are welcome to join the circle. The syllabus is available online. Classes are February 16, March 1, and March 15. We meet in the Education Wing, Room 207.

3rd TUESDAYS: TABLE TALK • 6:30 - 8:30 PM

Table Talk is a monthly gathering, hosted by Joan and Bill Harrison (409 Oakland Street, Decatur) and facilitated by Rev. Michael, of food, fellowship, and conversation. It is not a "traditional" group; folk come and go as they are able and no advance reading is required. Upcoming gatherings are on Tuesdays, February 20, March 20 and April 17 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Please bring a dish to share, if you are able—there is always a gracious plenty of food.

Sacred Journeys

If you like having your brain stimulated, your heart warmed and your funny bone tickled, then drop in on our Sacred Journeys class. Sacred Journeys is an exploration of the most profound religious and theological writings, and sincere pursuit of wisdom and truth as handed down over the ages, conducted in an environment which encourages all opinions and insists on lots of laughter.

Practical Theology

Typically meets in Room 204 in the Christian Ed wing.

This class has been meeting about five years. Presently there are about 15 members. New people and visitors are always welcome. The main objective of the class is to study faith and theological issues and how we may put the theology into practice, taking leads from the church and the national UCC resources.

Typically meets in the Fireplace Room - just inside the Sanctuary.

UnSunday school = coffee, conversation, and community.  Here is a class enjoyed by both newcomers and long time members, with no preparation required. Come share what's on your mind.  Feel welcomed to talk about your week, your kids, your dogs, your job, what's going on in your world and in the world we all share. Give support, get support, build community - that's UnSunday school.
