Acolytes in Worship

Through the centuries, acolytes have been faithful and conscientious people of faith of all ages. At Central UCC, beginning with third graders, this important ministry invites children and youth to lead us in 11:00 a.m. worship, bringing the light of Christ into our time together. The acolytes are trained in their work before beginning.

Children’s Music (Downstairs, Room 102)

The Central Children’s Music Group is designed for children in grades 1-5. Children attending the 11:00 am worship service leave with the Music Director during the closing hymn, and meet in Room 102, dismissing at 12:30. The goals of the children’s music program are to prepare children to worship fully through music, as well as to encourage them to become worship leaders through sharing their musical gifts. To meet these goals, the music selected is often hymns they will encounter frequently in worship, which they then share with the congregation. Their musical sharing includes playing tone chimes, percussion, and barred instruments, as well as singing. On the path to achieving these goals, their music time includes activities that encourage music reading and good use of their voices, as well as developing an understanding of the texts they will be singing. If you would like to know more about this program please contact our Music Director Leona Greenlaw at [email protected]
